TCM · Jatco JR711E

Transmission diagnostics for the Infiniti QX80, QX56 and Nissan Patrol Y62

The 7-speed Jatco JR711E is tough but expensive to repair, and trouble starts quietly: fluid temperature creeps up, the torque converter stops locking up fully. Canfiti shows 86 live parameters from the transmission unit — essentially the same Data Monitor the dealer sees in CONSULT.

What the “Transmission” screen shows

Parameters are split into 10 groups. Data refreshes continuously while the screen is open; temperature and speed use the units from settings.

  • 8Gears and selector

  • 8Speeds and revolutions
  • 18Solenoids: command and monitor

Six readings worth watching

  • Fluid temperature

In the pan and at the torque converter outlet. A common guideline for most automatics is 170–225 °F (77–107 °C); factory limits for this transmission are not public.

  • Gear ratio

In gear and outside a shift, the actual ratio must match the target and stay steady. If it wanders, a clutch is slipping.

  • Torque converter slip

In 6th and 7th at a steady speed it is close to zero. If it does not drop while TCC pressure is high, the lock-up is wearing.

  • Solenoids: command and monitor

The current the unit commands and the current it measures are very close in a healthy transmission.

  • Fail-safe and overheating

The fail-safe indicator and the ATF warning lamp are always 0 when everything is fine.

  • Selector position

The letter on screen must match the lever, and the range switches must not flicker.

Guide: a 15-minute transmission check

Which vehicles

Second-generation Infiniti QX56 (Z62, 2011–2013 model years), Infiniti QX80 through 2024, Nissan Patrol Y62 and Nissan Armada 2017–2024 — all share the Jatco JR711E (RE7R01B). It does not apply to the first-generation QX56 (JA60, 5-speed) or the new 2025+ QX80 (9-speed).

Engine won’t crank?

The transmission unit gives permission to start: in P and N it feeds the starter relay. “Start relay monitor” shows what the unit actually outputs. Turn the ignition on without cranking and watch it together with the selector position to tell whether the transmission is to blame.

Verified on these vehicles

The transmission Data Monitor is verified on the Infiniti QX56 and QX80 (Z62); the Nissan Patrol and Armada Y62 use the same transmission.

It also works on many other Nissan and Infiniti vehicles with a CAN bus — connect and check. If it works, tell us and we will add your model to the list.

Step-by-step guides

Questions and answers

What is a normal QX80 transmission fluid temperature?

A common guideline for most automatics is 170–225 °F (77–107 °C) after 20–30 minutes of driving. Towing or a hot traffic jam can push it higher for a while. Factory limits for the JR711E are not public.

Can I watch the temperature during a fluid change?

Yes, QX80 owners use the fluid temperature in Canfiti during a fluid change to check the level at the right temperature.

Does it work on the 2025 QX80?

No. The new QX80 has a 9-speed transmission, while the “Transmission” screen is built for the 7-speed JR711E.

Does Canfiti read transmission trouble codes?

No, reading and clearing trouble codes is not supported. The app shows live unit data: the fail-safe indicator tells you it is time to see a specialist.
