Infiniti QX56 and QX80 rear air suspension: tests and height calibration

The E-SUS unit stores the standard rear ride height. After replacing the height sensor, the struts or the unit itself, it has to be set again — usually by the dealer. Canfiti runs the calibration, tests the compressor and valve and shows live suspension data.

Active tests

In the “Active test” section the app drives the suspension actuators directly.

  • Compressor

Turn the compressor on and off to check that it pumps air. Do not keep it running for long.

  • Exhaust solenoid

Open the valve to release air from the system, then close it.

  • CK SUSP lamp

Turn the suspension warning lamp on the instrument cluster on and off to test it.

Data monitor

While the “E-SUS unit” screen is open, the app keeps reading the unit data:

  • Compressor, valve and CK SUSP lamp status
  • Voltage at the suspension unit
  • Whether the standard height setup is complete
  • Height sensor voltage and the stored value
  • Ride height recognized by the unit, in millimeters
  • How long the height sensor signal has not changed
  • Whether the engine is running

Standard height calibration

Needed after removing or replacing the height sensor or replacing the air suspension control unit — and in practice after replacing the rear struts if the rear sits too high or too low.

  1. 1

    Clear height setting

The car is lifted, engine running. Run the compressor for at least 60 seconds, then perform “CLEAR HEIGHT INI”. Done when the CK SUSP lamp is on.

  2. 2

    Adjust height with no load

With the car still lifted, perform “ADJUST HEIGHT INI”. Done when the CK SUSP lamp goes off.

  3. 3

    Standard height level

Lower the car onto its wheels and perform “STANDARD HEIGHT LEVEL”, waiting at least 120 seconds. The monitored height must be between −15 and +15 mm.

Step-by-step calibration guide

An owner’s experience

After the rear struts were replaced on an Infiniti QX80, the rear either sat at full height or dropped to the bump stops, and shops could not calibrate it without dealer software. The owner did the calibration with Canfiti and a regular Bluetooth adapter, lifting the rear left wheel — where the height sensor is — on a jack.

Verified on these vehicles

Rear air suspension tests and calibration are verified on the Infiniti QX56 and QX80 (Z62).

It also works on many other Nissan and Infiniti vehicles with a CAN bus — connect and check. If it works, tell us and we will add your model to the list.

Questions and answers

When does a QX80 air suspension need calibration?

After removing or replacing the height sensor, replacing the air suspension control unit, or if the rear sits wrong after rear strut repairs.

Can I calibrate it without a lift?

Owners have done it on a jack, lifting the rear left wheel where the height sensor is. Always use solid stands.

How do I know the calibration worked?

After the last step the ride height recognized by the unit must be between −15 and +15 mm.

Calibration did not help — what now?

Most likely the height sensor is faulty. Check in the monitor whether its voltage changes, and replace the sensor if needed.
