In short

Everything the firmware does

The core is the same for every car with a Clarion 08IT. Only one thing changes per model: which data to read from the CAN bus and where to find it.

01

GT-R gauges

  • Hold STATUS

    The GT-R multi-function display

The gauge screen from the Nissan GT-R R35 is in the firmware in full, but on a regular car there is no way to open it. Now there is: long-press STATUS and the gauges come up.

  • Live CAN-bus data on the MFD: coolant and oil temperatures

    Live data from your car

The stock MFD gauges are wired to the CAN bus: fuel level and range, coolant temperature, engine oil temperature (checked against dealer diagnostics) and transmission oil temperature. Fuel economy shows after 20 seconds of driving instead of half a kilometre.

  • Gear and speed

The current gear together with your speed, on the Gear Position screen and in a widget on other screens. Seventh gear shows too.

  • G-forces

Acceleration graphs for launching, braking and cornering, plus pedal and steering position: the stock GT-R screens work on your car.

  • ENTER starts and stops

    Stopwatch

The GT-R stopwatch screen: start and stop with the ENTER button on the controller.

02

Custom gauges the GT-R never had

  • Tachometer

A 0–8,000 rpm scale with a red zone from 6,000 and the revs as a number in the centre. You pick it in the MFD menu alongside the stock gauges and it looks native.

  • Voltmeter with decimals

Battery voltage from 11 to 16 V with a red zone above 15 V and the value in the centre, so you can tell 14.4 V from 13.1 V.

03

Cameras and video

  • Hold CAMERA

    Cameras at any speed

Hold CAMERA and the rear camera works while you drive. The controller knob cycles through the cameras: rear, left, right, 360° bird's-eye view, front. BACK returns to the previous screen. Requires the factory Around View Monitor; a small service marker from the camera unit stays on the picture.

  • Stock message: the video will resume when the vehicle is stopped and the parking brake is on
    Before
    After

    Video in motion

DVDs and movies from a USB stick keep playing on the main screen while the car is moving, not only on the rear monitors. Tested on the road.

04

Quality of life

  • The stock warning screen that the firmware removes

    No more "I agree" screen

The warning screen stops greeting you every time you start the car.

In development

How it installs

Nothing is removed from the car. A regular USB stick does the whole job.

What you need

  • A 1–8 GB USB stick (FAT32)

The CANFITI app and an ELM327 adapter are not needed for installation. You will only need them for some features that are in development now: screen mirroring and setting up the oil pressure sensor.

The factory firmware goes back on the same way, from a USB stick.

  1. 1

    Get the firmware

Once sales open. Everyone who leaves an email will hear from us where and how.

  2. 2

Copy the file to a USB stick

A 1–8 GB USB stick formatted as FAT32.

  3. 3

Plug the stick into the car's USB port

The head unit finds the firmware and copies the files. It takes a few minutes; keep the ignition on.

The set of live data on the MFD depends on the model: whatever its CAN bus carries is what gets shown. Cameras at speed need the factory Around View Monitor. Trims without navigation usually do not have the 08IT.

Cars for the US and Canada (including the Nissan Armada Y62 2016–2020) run a different firmware version; support is still being confirmed. Send us the version from the Version Information screen and we will tell you. How to find the version

Questions and answers

How do I know I have a Clarion 08IT and which firmware version?

Mute the sound, then hold SETTINGS and turn the volume knob: the engineering menu opens with the Version Information screen. You need a version that starts with X3E.

08IT or IT08, which is right?

They are the same head unit: Nissan documentation calls it 08IT, owners often write IT08.

Do I have to remove the head unit or take the dash apart?

No. The firmware installs from a USB stick through the stock port.

Can I go back to the factory firmware?

Yes, the same way, from a USB stick.

What do I need for cameras at speed?

The factory Around View Monitor with four cameras. If the car only has a rear camera, that is what comes on while driving. A service marker from the camera unit stays on the picture; the head unit cannot remove it.

Does it work with an external Android Auto or CarPlay box?

Yes, as long as there is a regular 08IT underneath: such boxes connect through AUX and do not interfere with the head unit firmware.

Will other Nissan and Infiniti models be supported?

The core is shared by every car with the 08IT; only the CAN-bus data reading is adapted per model. Send us your model and year, it helps decide which car comes next.

Do I need the CANFITI app or an ELM327 adapter?

Not for installation, a USB stick is enough. You will only need them for some features that are in development now: screen mirroring and setting up the oil pressure sensor.

Does it work with an iPhone?

You don't need a phone to install the firmware. Screen mirroring, which is in development now, is designed for Android phones.
